Week 1 Term 4 2024

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land the Birri-Gubba Juru people and pay our respects to the elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia.

      Dear Parents and Friends,

Welcome back to Term 4 !

It will be a very busy term ahead and 10 weeks this year.

This week we will start the Swimming program. I thank all those generous parents/friends who have nominated to help out at the pool. The students are looking forward to the sessions.

For the next three weeks students in Year 2 - 6 will complete PAT testing in Reading and Numeracy. PAT testing is completed near the end of the year. This testing enables the teachers to see  how each child has progressed in their learning and what they need to progress. The data is also used by the teacher the following year as well.

During October the school will have the “colourful playground” under the Tamarind tree removed and a new playground built near the Prep playground with soft fall and a sail being installed.

      Assembly

      Friday 14 October  - Year 4/5 Assembly
      Friday 25 October - Year 2/3 Assembly
      Friday 1 November - Year 1/2 Assembly
      Thursday 7 November - Year 5/6 Assembly
Friday 15 November - Prep Assembly

From the Guidance Counsellor - A Little SPOT

During Term 2 and Term 3 I have been working with the 1/2 and 2/3 classes to learn about “A Little SPOT of Emotions and Feelings”. (Recently Miss Sofia presented lessons as a part of her Practicum for her Masters in Guidance and Counselling).

The Litte SPOT lessons and activities are aimed at developing social emotional awareness and regulation skills, including how to identify feelings, and how to use strategies to appropriately express feelings and regulate behaviour. The SPOTs
      include:
       Peaceful (Green)
       Anxiety (Grey)
       Anger (Red)
       Sadness (Blue)
       Happiness (Yellow)
       Confidence (Orange)
       Love (Pink)

The students also learnt about the Scribble Spot (multicoloured) - the Scribble Spot joins us when are not sure how we are feeling!
We will continue to consolidate our learning in Term 4, and at the end of year a booklet of activities completed in class will be sent home so parents and carers can see what we have been learning about.

      Religion Update

Migrant and refugee Sunday was on Sunday the 29th of September this year. This day invites us to reflect on the experiences of people forced to flee their homes due to conflict, persecution, or hardship.

The Catholic Church has commemorated this day since 1914, highlighting the plight of those on the move and encouraging us to stand in solidarity with them. It is a time to express our concern for vulnerable populations, to pray for their protection and resilience, and to foster a deeper understanding of the complex realities they face.

Let us take some time to think of those less fortunate than us.
