Week 9 Term 1 2025

We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land the Birri-Gubba Juru people and pay our respects to the elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia.

      Dear parents and friends,

      unnamed_2_.png

Another term has flown past and what a busy and different term it has been. It has been wonderful to see the Prep students flourish and after teaching them yesterday to see them able to identify their letters and begin to write some words. So much learning has already happened in 9 weeks.

Next week I will be on Long Service leave enjoying the cooler weather in New Zealand - fishing, hiking and doing some photography!

      Thank You

A HUGE thank you to all the parents who have been displaying their surname on their car visor. It helps make the teacher on duty have a less stressful duty and hopefully increase the speed of pickup. Thank you for your support with this matter.

      Remember

Don’t get out of your car if you are parked next to school.

If you get out of your car it must be parked in the middle or on the opposite side of the road from school.

Family and Community Engagement or FACE.

At the last CSP meeting  it was decided to change the CSP to  FACE.

This format still comes under the Catholic School Parents Queensland Association (which oversees P&Fs and CSP) and is based on the following principles:

      • All families and schools want the best for their children
      • All children have the right to the opportunity to reach their full potential
      • Families are the first and continuing educators of their children
      • Effective schools provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment
      • Families and schools value quality teaching and respect teachers; professional expertise
      • Families and schools value the diversity of families and use this as a resource for building partnerships and communities
      • Family-school partnerships are based on mutual responsibility, respect and trust
      • Family-school partnerships improve student motivation and learning
      • Family-school partnerships strengthen the connections between schools and their communities
      • Partnerships can involve all organisations that support families and schools
      • It is a team, responsible for planning, organising, implementing and evaluating activities
      • Support networks, to enable the community to share ideas, issues and best practice
      • Skills building for families to build their capacity to support their children’s learning at school and at home

There are no formal positions e.g. secretary, president. The first FACE meeting will be held on Tuesday 6th May.

This meeting will be a meeting about Phonics and reading - helping parents to help with reading in the younger grades. We will also do some Maths - about trading for the upper grades and what is expected in each year level.

      FACEBOOK

Make sure you are following St Colman's Catholic School on facebook. We try and photo up lots of photos of your child learnign and having fun. Many of our events are advertised as well.
