      Dear parents and friends,

      Assessment & NAPLAN

Our Prep, 1 and 2 students have completed Early Years Testing, that provides extra data for teachers to draw upon when planning Literacy and Numeracy development through the range of subjects in the curriculum. Last week we received feedback from the testing by our Townsville Curriculum Advisor and a Speech Pathologist on how we can assist our students improve in light of the results.

Congratulations to our Year 3 and Year 5 students who have finished Naplan. The teachers were very proud of their efforts. The results will hopefully be feedback to the school quickly so we can use this data to inform our teaching.

      CSP

Thank you to those parents who came to the CSP AGM and meeting. It was wonderful to see so many new faces. Next term we will be holding a raffle as one of our major fundraisers. Watch this space for more information.

The CSP will also be organising a Sip & Paint Night next term which will be open to the community to come and show their artistic abilities.

Thank you to the CSP for all their work last year with fundraising. They bought the school community the following items:

      New cool drink bubblers

      BBQ

      25 new Ipads

      Buddy chair

      Class decodable readers

      Thank you

Thank you Mrs Rebecca Horan for coming to school last week and educating the students on how to keep their teeth healthy. We would also like to thank Jane (Tex’s grandmother) for bringing the ambulance to St Colman’s and sharing how she keeps the community safe and healthy. The students thoroughly enjoyed the event.

Don't forget to be working on your Easter Hat for our parade next week.

A SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating Harmony Week

      Screenshot_2024_03_15_192634.png

Harmony Week is a celebration held annually in March across Australia. It’s aimed at promoting diversity, respect and inclusiveness. This event is an excellent opportunity for parents to teach their children about different cultures, traditions and customs. The goal is to encourage everyone to appreciate and celebrate differences and promote a sense of community and belonging for everyone.

During Harmony Week, there are a number of events and activities held to bring people from different cultures together. These activities include multicultural food festivals, cultural performances, art exhibitions and workshops. Participating in these events helps children to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse communities that make up Australia.

As a parent, you can engage your children in discussions about multiculturalism and encouraging them to ask questions. Promoting a more harmonious and inclusive society, can help children grow up with a greater appreciation for the richness and diversity of Australia's cultural landscape.

This Special Report hopes to instil positive values and create an opportunity to start a conversation with your child about understanding diversity and multiculturalism.
