We would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land the Birri-Gubba Juru people and pay our respects to the elders past, present and future for they hold the memories, the traditions, the culture and hopes of Indigenous Australia.

      Dear parents and friends,

The things we say and how we say them are so powerful. Our words can impact how others feel, what happens to us and so much more. Using “bad words” , swearing or calling others names is not accepted at St Colman’s School. Students need to learn that school rules work towards a positive school environment.

Our RISE behaviour motto expects everyone to respect others - which includes speaking to each other in a positive way. Our school culture should be a safe and happy place. Students will be reminded that their negative behaviour/ “words” are not acceptable in the school environment. If the language continues parents will be contacted. I ask that you work with your child to remind them that we must respect all people that we encounter in a school and speak to them in a way that they would like to be spoken to.

      NAPLAN

Naplan testing for Year 3 and Year 5 commences next Wednesday. Please support your child by reminding them it is just another class activity but one that all year 3 and 5 students in Australia will be doing at about the same time.

Pick Up End of Day Procedure

To help ensure a quick and safe pick up in the afternoon, can all families please follow the below procedures:

      1. If you are getting out of your car and waiting near the gate please park in the middle of the road or on the opposite side of the road.

      2. No child is allowed to walk across the road to a parent waiting on the other side of the road.

      3. The  designated carparks in front of the school are for a quick pick up - as soon as Mrs Keys sees your child I will send them down to the waiting car and then your child must quickly get in the car and the car moves on. Other cars move up.

      On rainy days

      1. Students are picked up from the shed. Please park in the middle if you are getting out of your car.

      2. If you are waiting in your car please pull up in front of the shed. Students will be sent to the car and then cars must quickly move on.

      3. Do not wait for your child under the school building - come to the shed.

Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.

A SPECIAL REPORT: Wellbeing Barometer Survey: 2024

      Screenshot_2024_02_28_141852.png

The Wellbeing Barometer survey has proven to be an invaluable tool for schools, providing insights into the state of youth mental health and wellbeing. Whilst last year’s results focussed the spotlight on areas of concern, there were also many highlights that demonstrated the resilience and adaptability of students and emphasised the necessity of prevention strategies.

Participating in this year's survey, will assist in identifying areas of strength and concern, as well as pinpointing opportunities for early intervention. Previously gathered information has helped support families as they navigate difficult conversations that enable understanding and foster connections to build relationships. This survey is part of an ongoing, longitudinal study, with the results being instrumental in tailoring support for students and their families.

Participation is strongly encouraged, as it provides a comprehensive view of students' experiences, challenges, and achievements over the past year. Its aim is to capture a comprehensive picture of young people's lives, allowing for a tailored approach to enhance mental and emotional wellbeing. We encourage you to take a few moments to complete a survey for each of your children. This will help us determine the nature and extent of your concerns and how best to support families in the months ahead. Responses remain anonymous and will only be reported on an aggregated basis. You are asked to base your responses on observations made in the last 12 months.Acquiring the skills for future independence, taking healthy risks, and giving young people the opportunity to emancipate from parents, are key developmental tasks that are essential if we are to stave off the impact of mental illness in the future.
