Welcome back to term 2!
This term we at St Colman’s School are proud to announce a new initiative within our Mini Vinnies Committee. We will be joining forces with St Vincent De Paul and the Burdekin Community Association to run a “Community Pantry” from the steps of the Parish Hall every Tuesday, providing various food donations to the Home Hill Community who may be experiencing hardship. We will be distributing goods kindly donated by Home Hill Bakery and Coles on a weekly basis. The Mini Vinnies children will be responsible for stocking the shelves and wheeling the collection stands in and out each Tuesday. This will hopefully open the children’s awareness to the needs of others in the community and inspire them to be more community- service minded individuals
We are calling on our school community to get behind our initiative. We would appreciate any donations of food items, especially fresh produce from home gardens, fruit trees and farms. This is a great way to get your kids involved in the project - get them to visit grandparents, family and neighbours who have trees and gardens, pick the fruit and veggies and bring them to school each Monday or Tuesday to place in the stand. This is a much needed service here in the Home Hill community and we here at St Colman’s would be the first school in the area to offer such an initiative.
