RISE
This year we will be introducing the word RISE as a framework to St Colman's wellbeing and behaviour management policy. The word RISE stands for :
R - respect
- we are called to respect yourself, others and the environment
I - Inspire
- is my behaviour inspiring to others, what can I do to inspire others academically and socially
S - Safe
- am I being safe in the classroom, on the playgroup or to my peers.
E - Effort
- am I giving my best effort to all that I do at school
Our Year 6 leaders have used this acronym to write their Leadership pledge. Over the year teachers will teach these expected behaviours to their class. This language of RISE will be used across the school e.g. Is your behavior inspiring the younger students to act in the right way? A poster about the meaning of RISE will start to appear in every classroom. Please support us in the use of this language and modelling the correct behaviours to our students.
Annual General Meeting of St Colman’s CSP
Date: Monday 21st March 2022 at 7.30pm in the St Colman’s Staffroom.
St Colman’s school has a very unique position in having a CSP parental group. Not all schools have a CSP. Many schools have a School Board and a P & F. Due to our size it was decided a few years ago that a CSP would better serve the St Colman’s School community.
A CSP is a group of parents that gather two times a term and have the focus of better engaging parents in their child’s education and wellbeing. Please consider coming along to our meeting and nominating you for a psoition or just coming to help out.
WOW - Work on Writing
Monday to Thursday every class has 15 minutes of uninterrupted writing. Each student has their own WOW (Work on Writing) book. A stimulus picture is put up on the interactive white board and students are encouraged to write a narrative and from next week we will commence our work on a persuasive text. All adults including support officers, the teacher and principal walk around the room and give immediate feedback to the students which has been proven through research to improve the quality and quantity of the writing. Feedback might include - punctuation, vocabulary and sentence structure.
Look at the fantasic work our students in Year 5/6 have produced with their starts on a narrative.
Ahhh what can I do!? I screamed. Who was going to look after me? Where did they go? I was going downstairs to make breakfast, then I saw a note. ‘Hi, we'll be back in two days. Love You’. Whaaaaaaat!! Where did they need to go for two days? Why did they leave me here all alone? FOCUS I said to myself.
I need to find them. Then I grabbed some essentials and my quest began..
What has happened here, what was that sound? Hello, is there anyone there? There it is, again, it’s getting closer, runnnnn!
I see the kitchen…pitch black. I went to see the family but they were gone. Two minutes later, a noise came from the basement, mmmm mmmm, someone was down there.
MUM, DAD, ANYONE. Thud, who is it? Show yourself unless you want to get shot. I have a handgun and I'm not afraid to use it. Click click the guns cocked, I’m warning you, come out wherever you are. I’m not waiting much longer. Ahh help!
HaHaHaHaHa, good trick mum, good one, nice, you can’t fool me. What! Where are you? Where is everyone? One small tear slowly drifted down my face as I said to myself, where are you? I ran outside to see no car in the driveway. Mum, Dad, Sister, Brother.

As a 2022 leader of St. Colman’s school, I promise to be the best leader I can be.
I will RISE to be responsible, have integrity, support and continue to display effort in all my leadership roles.
I promise to be a true leader to every student at St Colman's school and inspire them to reach their full potential. As senior leaders of St Colman’s we promise to be respectful, compassionate and patient to staff and guests within our school community.
We ask God to protect us along our journey ahead and help us overcome our fears and challenges to come throughout this year. May God continue to bless us and have strength in our faith.

Sport Update
Cricket Sessions
This week we will start our 4 weeks program with Queensland Cricket. Cricket Coaches will work with each class for 1 hour. These sessions are made up of practical cricket activities that focus on fun and fitness. The program uses a ‘learn through play’ philosophy and culminates with modified T20 games like a Woolworths Cricket Blast program.
Water Awareness Program
We thank all parents that have volunteered for helping at the Water Awareness Program. A decision will be made this afternoon (Wednesday 9th March) if we will have swimming due to the heat. Thank you to Mrs Caspanello for her work in organising the program. Thank you for your patience with this matter.
Interchool Sport
Hopefully, this Friday (depending on heat) our Year 5/6 will be able to participate in Interschool Sport. The Year 5/6 students will travel by bus to the Burdekin Touch Football Fields at 1.00pm to participate in AFL. The students will play 3 x 20 minute games. The students will return by 2.45 to catch buses and pick up. This week Mrs Courtney Anderson and Mrs Kim Watkins will supervise the students.
