Principal & Teaching and Learning Update
Dear parents and friends,
Another busy two weeks ahead! It is so wonderful to walk around and visit the classrooms. At St Colman’s School we are very blessed to have such inspiring teachers who are able to cater for each child individually in their learning journey. I am seeing daily, students who are showing RISE.
Mrs Watkins and myself this week will be participating in some professional development on the new Australian Curriculum and how the new curriculum will affect our teaching and learning.
Thank you to all those that helped out at the Cross Country - it is great to see students excelling in different areas.
Hoping that all mothers are spoilt next Mother’s Day and get a rest ! You are doing an amazing job! Hopefully see you at the breakfast.

Mother’s Day! Breakfast in Bed?
What do you plan to do for your sweet mother on Mother's Day? Google must be tired of proposing recipes for breakfast in bed because we all google to cook the best breakfast for mothers on Mother's Day. All our plans for Mother's Day and all the preparations seem inadequate because nothing compares to what our mothers have done for us. It just shows how powerless we are when we want to show our love for our mothers in return. Today, we all want to find the perfect way to tell our mothers what we owe them.
However, when I talked to some of your mothers or many other mothers, I realised that we don't need to give her the world to make a mother happy. First of all, it's enough that we call her MOM with great affection. She's fond of being treated like a mother. She longs to be called mom. Secondly, our moms want our presence more than our presents. There's nothing you can return to her for what she's been to you so far. That's why I said that moms are the easiest people to satisfy. They are so loving and lovable.
People in your school or society may not be constant in their attitudes toward you, but you are still your mother's precious child. Mothers love us, not always because we are the best but because they are the best.
With all your plans for Mother's Day this year, try to make your love for your mother more genuine. Please appreciate her for all she did for you and apologise for all those times you failed to love her back.
Happy Mother’s Day, dear moms!

Library Corner.. new book coming
In this sensitively illustrated story, featuring a cast of zoo animals, Birdie the penguin has a special role to play. Until one day she gets sick and discovers that perhaps her role was not as important as she thought. She and her friends discover that the world can light itself up at night without Birdie’s song. Birdie begins to question what her purpose is. She tries to learn the jobs the other animals do, without success. She feels lost and confused — until her zoo friends help her realize her true purpose.
The author has said that she wanted to deliver the message that we all have special, unique gifts and it’s our responsibility to share them with the world. If we have a song to sing, we should sing it, whether it fills a stadium or only brings joy to one person … it all counts.

Chaplain’s Corner - ONLINE SAFETY
Keeping our kids safe online is becoming a major concern for parents in this technological age we live in. Many of us are unaware of what content our children are being exposed to and how we as parents can manage their exposure and keep them safe in a space many of us are not confident in.
The Australian eSafety Guide (esafety.gov.au/key-issues/esafety-guide) is a fantastic resource for children, parents and educators on the latest games, apps and social media platforms that are popular amongst children and teens. These include AmongUs, Fortnite, TikTok, Snapchat, Omegle etc and what warnings/dangers are associated with each of them, how to protect your information and how to report harmful content. The Guide also instructs parents on how to enable parental controls on devices and within apps. All of these things do not ensure your child’s safety online so good and honest communication within families needs to be ongoing and supportive.
The eSafety Commission is where anyone can go to report online abuse, bullying, inappropriate content and behaviour. Exposure to harmful and explicit material is increasing with our younger children and reports of online bullying, doxing and stalking are rising at alarming rates. It’s definitely not just a ‘teenage’ issue as more and more younger children have access to their own and their parents devices. Educating yourself and talking with your children will help protect them online.
God Bless,
