Prep

Last week Prep were learning about the letter U. They found out that an umbrella starts with "u" and that 18 preps can fit under an umbrella.

Dear parents and friends,

Another term has flown past! Term 3 is planned and we are looking forward to the many diverse and interesting activities that have been devised. Next term I will have been in the Burdekin for a year ! I would like to thank the community for your support and friendship that you have shown me since our big move here. The school is moving forward and with your support I know we will continue to improve St Colman's School so it is a place for our children to learn and each child develops themselves to their full potential.

Congratulations to Mrs Shalon Gibson who was successful in gaining permanency for her position as Bursar and Administrative Officer. Shalon is doing a wonderful job and her friendly happy nature is an asset to our school.

Don’t forget to spread the word that enrolments are open for our Prep 2023 class. Next term we will continue to work with C & K Kindy and Genius Day Care to ensure that all Kindy students make a successful transition to Prep in 2023.

Hoping everyone has a restful and healthy holiday. Looking forward to the new challenges of Term 3.

Reporting in the Early Years

Semester One report cards will be made available on the COMPASS portal on Friday 24th June. For the purposes of reporting, students are graded using a 5-point scale. From Year 2, students will receive an A, B, C, D or E grading, however, this scale differs slightly in Prep and Year 1. In Prep and Year 1 the 5 points of the grading scale are as follows:-

Making Connections (MC) - The child makes connections using the curriculum content and demonstrates a clear understanding of the required knowledge. The child applies a high level of skill in situations familiar to them, and is beginning to transfer skills to new situations.

Working With (WW) - The child can work with the curriculum content and demonstrates understanding of the required knowledge. The child applies skills in situations familiar to them.

Exploring (EX) - The child is exploring the curriculum content and demonstrates understanding of aspects of the required knowledge. The child uses a varying level of skills in situations familiar to them.

Becoming Aware (BA) - The child is becoming aware of the curriculum content and demonstrates a basic understanding of aspects of required knowledge. The child is beginning to use skills in situations familiar to them.

All students will also receive a grading of commendable, satisfactory or needs improvement in each subject area for their academic application and responsible behaviour.

Religious Education News

Congratulations to our Confirmation candidates who made their First reconciliation on Tuesday 21st June. It was a beautiful afternoon and we were all very proud of them.  Please remember these students in your prayers and thoughts as they continue to prepare for their Confirmation on 31st July  at 9am.

Refugee Week

In 2022, Refugee Week will be held from Sunday, 19th June to Saturday 25th June.

The theme is Healing.

Refugee Week aims to raise awareness about issues affecting refugees. It promotes harmony and togetherness within communities.

The theme of healing speaks to Australians and the rest of the world that we have an opportunity to reset the button on how we behave towards each other. Communities can come together to share their stories of hardship, to learn from each other and realise the connections we have as people.
